A woman died and another person was hospitalized after being injured in a hit-and-run Saturday afternoon in the Lakeview neighborhood on the North Side, authorities said.
About 1 p.m., a suspect driving a BMW X3 struck another vehicle in the 800 block of West Addison Street and then hit two pedestrians in the 3500 block of North Fremont Street, Chicago police Officer Michelle Tannehill said. The driver had failed to stop at a stop sign and hit the pedestrians in a crosswalk, police said Sunday. After striking the pedestrians, the driver of the BMW X3 drove on the sidewalk on Fremont Street, collided with an iron fence and fled the scene on foot along with a passenger, police said.
The woman was pronounced dead at 1:24 p.m., according to information from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Her identity was not immediately released, though the Medical Examiner’s office Sunday identified her place of residence as Cary. According to Chicago police, the injured person was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with minor injuries and was in good condition.
