Traditionally the brothers mark the occasion together, but a royal expert has spoken out as this will not occur this year for heartbreaking reasons. Richard Fitzwilliams exclusively told Express.co.uk: “They always used to meet on this sad anniversary to relive memories of her.”

       Despite it being widely reported that the brothers have spent previous anniversaries together remembering precious moments with their late mother, it is unlikely that Prince Harry will be in attendance or involved for this year’s occasion since relocating to the US with his wife Meghan Markle, whom he has two children with.

       Instead, Prince William is set to spend the significant day of his beloved mother’s death with his wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and three children.

       He wants Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to grow up knowing “who she was and that she existed”.

       Mr Fitzwilliams believes that in spite of the distance, the brothers will still communicate on August 31, the day of the Princess of Wales' untimely death, but in private means.

       He said: “I think it likely they will be in touch but any contact between them will be private.”

       In previous years, the brothers have marked the occasion in significant public ways, including a memorial service on the 10th anniversary and the commissioning of two documentaries about Diana for the 20th anniversary.

       This year, the Cambridge family are set to mark the significant occasion privately by deciding how much information to share with their three children about “Granny Diana”, the name given to the late Princess by her son in the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy in 2017.

       William and Kate have widely shared information with George, eight, Charlotte, six, and Louis, three - in the past about her.

       During the documentary he said he “constantly” talks to his children about her at bedtime so they know “there are two grandmothers in their lives”.

       The future king also said: “We’ve got more photos up around the house now of her and we talk about her a bit.”

       On Mother’s Day earlier this year, the children made a touching tribute to their “Granny Diana” by hand-writing messages to her sharing their love.

       Charlotte’s read: "Dear Granny Diana I am thinking of you on Mother's Day. I love you very much. Papa is missing you. Lots of love Charlotte xxxxxxxxx."

       While her brother George's card said: "Dear Granny Diana, Happy, happy Mother's Day. I love you very much and think of you always, Sending lots of love from George xxxxx."

       Royal fans can mark the occasion by visiting the statue of Princess Diana that was unveiled by her sons, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex, earlier this summer.

       As this year marks 24 years since the fatal crash in Paris, special arrangements have been made to allow visitors to view the memorial near London’s Kensington Palace.

       Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) said that for those who want to stop and take a moment, they would be allowed to see the statue from the Cradle Walk around the Sunken Garden where it stands from 3pm to 5pm.
