PETALING JAYA: The medical staff at Hospital Kuala Lumpur who treated the victims of the LRT train mishap are “unsung heroes”, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister applauded their contributions following the discharge of the last of four severely injured victims of the LRT train collision.
He said the victim, a 31-year-old woman, was allowed to return home from Hospital Kuala Lumpur on Monday night.
“She is the last patient whom Hospital Kuala Lumpur allowed to return home, and she will continue her rehabilitation, check-ups and follow-ups that have been arranged by the medical specialists in the hospital, ” he added.
Over the past two days, he had called up the families of the four passengers who were severely injured in the train collision that happened on May 24.
He said last Thursday, a 52-year-old man who was also severely injured in the incident was allowed to return home, and is also receiving rehabilitative treatment.
“Both victims suffered severe head injuries and they were saved by the medical and surgical staff at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, ” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Dr Wee said he had also spoken to the family of the 26-year-old woman recuperating at her home in Parit Buntar, Perak.
Another female patient, he added, who had been transferred from Hospital Kuala Lumpur to a private medical facility in Damansara for jaw surgery, was also recovering at home and undergoing physiotherapy.
“May all the patients make a full recovery as soon as possible, ” he said.
Dr Wee highlighted the contributions by medical staff at the Hospital Kuala Lumpur who had worked tirelessly to treat the patients.
He said the family members of the two victims who suffered head injuries expressed their immeasurable appreciation to Dr Azmi Alias, the neurosurgery head of department in the hospital, and his team.
“I, too, wish to express a thousand thanks to the ‘unsung heroes’ from Hospital Kuala Lumpur led by Dr Azmi for saving and treating the wounded victims.
“No words can I say except ‘thank you’. Only God can repay your good deed, ” he said.
