JASIN: Two suspects, one a 53-year civil servant, have been arrested by police over a spate of thefts at cattle farms here.

       Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Mispani Hamdan said a number of cattle thefts had been committed in the district recently.

       "The latest reports about missing cows were made by two livestock breeders at Kampung Kemangkang and Kesang Pajak.

       "One of the animals is of a costly breed," he said on Wednesday (June 23).

       He said the two missing cows were found at a farm in Krubong here and sold for RM2,700 and RM1,400.

       "We also detained a 42-year-old Indonesian. The suspects are being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft," he said.

       DSP Mispani said one of the suspects had an authorisation letter issued to him by the Veterinary Services Department to transport the animals.

       He said police also believe a cattle theft syndicate was at work following seven reports of missing cows worth a total of RM15,000 in the district over the past week.

       "We believe the stolen animals were being transported via back routes to avoid being detected at roadblocks," he said.

       DSP Mispani had ordered police patrols and those manning roadblocks to divert lorries transporting cows to the Jasin police headquarters to be checked.
