PETALING JAYA: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) will need to look at the terms of appointment and the scope of the National Recovery Council (NRC) and the Special Committee on Covid-19 before agreeing to such an offer, says Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir .
Its president said that the alternative NRC that Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad proposed is different from the one announced by former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
"So, it’s imperative that a thorough discussion be held between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob with Dr Mahathir to agree on the terms of appointment and the scope of National Recovery Council before Dr Mahathir agrees to such an offer," he said when contacted on Monday (Aug 23).
On Sunday (Aug 22), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob offered the Opposition the chance to be part of the NRC and the Special Committee on Covid-19, saying that jostling for political power must be stamped out.
In his maiden speech, he said that he understood the political turmoil that has besieged the country has been distressing to the public.
Meanwhile, Batu Gajah MP V. Sivakumar said that he personally agreed to this idea.
"I think the Pakatan leadership should consider accepting the offe on the condition that the offer must be genuine. Pakatan should stand together to fight Covid-19 for the interest of the nation," said Sivakumar
"I hope the Prime Minister and the new government will seriously adopt recommendations from all parties to fight the pandemic," he added.
