SOME 40 families in Dengkil, Selangor, suffered heavy losses after their homes were hit by the worst flood ever, Makkal Osai reported.

The 182 residents of the Ampar Tenang Indian settlement are used to floods during a heavy downpours, but the storm on Aug 19 saw the water level rose to more than a metre, said MIC information chief Datuk V. Gunalan.

The unusually high floodwaters caused extensive damage to homes, belongings and vehicles.

Gunalan, who is also the Sepang MIC chairman, visited the affected residents and distributed some aid.

The residents are blaming a nearby development project and have appointed a lawyer to look into possible legal recourse, he reportedly said.

       > The daily also reported that a pupil from SJK (T) Sepang, Selangor, won the state-level Girl Guides competition and will participate in the national level competition.

Beulah Abigail Rajamani, 12, also received the Girl Guides Tunas Harapan award.

In thanking the teachers, school headmaster C. Ragu, said he was confident she would excel in the national competition as well.
