A DOLPHIN carcass, weighing around 150kg and measuring 2.5m, washed ashore at the Kurung Tengar beach in Perlis, reported China Press.

Several fishermen spotted the Irrawaddy dolphin carcass on Monday and reported the matter to the NGO Perlis Nature and Wildlife (PNW).

PNW founder Syamil Abd Rahman later told reporters that the animal had died about a week ago. He explained that dolphins get stranded near the shore - a phenomenon known as beaching - and are unable to swim back to deeper waters when the tide ebbs too quickly.

The Irrawaddy dolphin is a species of oceanic dolphin found near sea coasts and in estuaries and rivers in parts of the Bay of Bengal and South-East Asia.

       > Hong Kong actor and singer Nicholas Tse is giving up his Canadian citizenship in what is viewed as a bid to “clean up” his image in mainland China, reported Sin Chew Daily.

“I’m born in Hong Kong and I am originally Chinese.

“I plan to give up my Canadian citizenship and I am applying for it,” he said during the CCTV programme Perception Room.

When news of the renunciation of his Canadian citizenship came to light, it became one of the most trending topics on Weibo, which is China’s equivalent of Twitter.

Tse, the son of veteran stars Patrick Tse and Deborah Li, was born in Hong Kong in 1980. He moved to Vancouver, Canada, at a young age and moved back to Hong Kong with his family later.

His time in Canada allowed him to become a Hong Kong and Canadian dual citizenship holder.

Mainland Chinese citizens are not allowed to hold dual citizenships.

       > A man from Thailand’s Buriram province is blaming his lack of sleep on ghosts, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The 35-year-old man, who tested positive for Covid-19 after volunteering for Covid-19 relief efforts, was ordered to self-isolate at a temple for 14 days after the authorities found his house to be unsuitable.

Beginning Sept 1, he slept between a morgue and a crematorium at the temple.

In a Facebook post the man wrote, “I’m so scared that I can’t fall asleep. I want to drive and leave this dreaded place.

“I have to force myself to sleep. The sound of crickets kept me awake until 4am,” he wrote, adding that “ghosts were much scarier than the virus”.

After his terrifying plea, he was allowed to self-isolate at home.
