SEPANG: The newly-launched Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KLATCC) is set to improve air traffic services at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said the new KLATCC will allow the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to implement and standardise the airspace design of the Kuala Lumpur Flight Information Region (KL FIR), which is important for the industry in terms of aircraft movements and fuel.

"Aside from that, the new KLATCC will increase flight movements from 84 to 108 aircraft per hour by fully utilising three runways simultaneously, as compared to two runways at KLIA and KLIA2 previously," he said in his opening speech at the official launch of the new KLATCC here on Wednesday (Dec 1).

The Transport Minister also pointed out that the previous KLATCC in Subang before KLIA's completion could only manage a maximum capacity of 38 aircraft per hour at Subang airport.

"With the increase in terms of movement capacity of aircraft, it will not only give an advantage to the aviation industry in Malaysia but also become one of the main economic contributors to the nation," he added.
