KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong conveyed his appreciation to the Prime Minister for launching the new Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KLATCC) in Sepang on Wednesday (Dec 1).

“Congratulations and well done to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) for successfully organising the launch of this significant event for the aviation sector of the country,” said Dr Wee.

“This comprehensive and sophisticated complex is one of CAAM’s transformational initiatives to level up Malaysia’s aviation sector with world-class standards and capabilities as part of the ministry’s goals and aspirations,” he said in his Facebook post on Wednesday night.

Dr Wee said the new KLATCC will allow CAAM to restructure the Kuala Lumpur Flight Information Region (KLFIR) to 14 sectors from six sectors previously.

This would allow airlines greater flexibility in optimising their routes and save fuel.

The new KLATCC will also increase the number of flight movements from 78 to 108 movements per hour on three runways simultaneously in both KLIA and klia2.

“By increasing the flight movement capacity, it significantly scales up Malaysia’s aviation sector and becomes a major contributor to the country’s economy,” said Dr Wee.
