A SCHOOLBOY has admitted trying to murder a disabled girl during a frenzied knife attack in a park.

The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stabbed the girl more than 50 times after carrying her into the park in Sittingbourne, Kent.

Police swept the area in July after the girl was stabbed 2

The boy, 16, has now admitted to the crime

He was flanked by an intermediary in the dock at Maidstone Crown Court while five members of the victim's family attended the 35-minute hearing.

The horrific ordeal is alleged to have taken place late in the early hours of July 22 this year.

The schoolboy had met the victim at her home before walking off together.

But the girl, who struggles to walk long distances due to her physical disability, began to lag behind so the boy allegedly picked her up and carried her to a secluded park known as The Orchards.

The victim, who was 16 at the time and also cannot be named, was found at 8am the next morning by a shocked member of the public.

She was found lying in a field with serious knife wounds.

The girl, from Sittingbourne in Kent, was left fighting for her life and had to be rushed to hospital.

The pair were known to each other, the court heard.

His lawyer Tana Adkin QC told the court he accepts his guilt.

He was remanded into a specialist unit while the probation service and a psychiatrist prepared reports.

He asked his parents not to attend court because he feels ashamed of what happened, she added.

Judge Philip Statman told him: "This is a very, very grave offence of violence.

"You have pleaded guilty and you must understand today that when you return you are facing a long period in custody."

When the judge asked him whether he understood this, he replied "yes."

The boy is due to be sentenced in February.
