MELAKA: The Jasin Bestari Fire and Rescue Department had to respond to a distress call from its own men on Sunday (Jan 9) when they were trapped under their overturned water tanker at a traffic light junction in Jalan Lipat Kajang here.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Soon Wee Kiang said that in the noon incident, the vehicle was on an emergency response dry run when it turned turtle while negotiating a sharp bend.
"The two firefighters made the distress call to their colleagues at the Jasin Bestari station.
"Luckily, both of them only sustained minor injuries and are currently under observation at the Jasin Hospital," he said when contacted.
Soon identified the driver of the tanker as fireman Samsul Yazid Khamis, 41, and the co-driver as Muhammad Syahmi Karim, 26, both from the Jasin Bestari station.
He said emergency medical rescue services and a fire engine rushed to the scene after receiving the distress call.
Soon said the department is still investigating the cause of the incident and the estimated losses.
"We will get a statement from the driver once he is out from medical observation," he added.
