PETALING JAYA: Supermax Corp Bhd has expanded its remediation plan to include former direct hire and contract workers who left the company before Oct 1, 2019.

“In efforts to ensure that all entitled former workers receive their remediation payments, notices will be published in the newspapers of respective foreign worker origin countries and outreach activities will be conducted with a six month window period starting February 2022 until July 2022 to reach out to as many former workers as possible,” it said.

To ensure all eligible workers receive the remediation, Supermax said it has set up a sinking fund, which will be reviewed upon depletion and governed by an advisory committee consisting management, consultants and independent migrant worker rights specialist Andy Hall.

In addition, the company has implemented a one-off RM5,000 ex-gratia payment to all its workers with an added element of interest on the amount of past recruitment-related fees and costs paid by the workers.

Supermax said these payments to its current active workers had been completed on Feb 7, 2022, while former workers will be receiving the same payout from February to July 2022.

The glove maker said it has paid out a total of RM25.67mil in remediation covering past recruitment fees, ex-gratia and other related costs to its workers, to date.
