BULOH KASAP: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim rejected the Minister-level allowances received as an Opposition leader because he wants to send a message to politicians - that every struggle must have principles.

Anwar also said he rejected RM50,000 worth of allowances so he would be in touch with regular Malaysians out there, including Felda settlers as well as the urban and rural poor.

"I want to send a message that struggles must have principles and to never trade your dignity.

I hope locals in Buloh Kasap will give PKR an opportunity," he said during a ceramah held after a walkabout with locals near here on Wednesday (March 2).

Anwar was present in Johor on Wednesday evening after he attended Parliament earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Anwar stressed the importance of embracing multiculturalism in society, adding that it is PKR's new approach in addressing local issues.

"To save this country, it requires participation from all races," added Anwar.

After speaking at the ceramah, Anwar then headed to the Pemanis operations centre to meet party supporters and voters.

Anwar is scheduled for another ceramah at the Gambir state seat at 9pm on Wednesday night.

The Port Dickson MP is expected to continue supporting the campaign of PKR candidates beginning Thursday (March 3) morning at Tanjung Surat.

PKR is contesting 20 seats, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) 16 in the Johor state election, while DAP is taking on 16.

Polling for the Johor state election has been set for March 12.
