A FATHER from Bera, Pahang, will never forget March 8, 2014, as it was the day he lost his son, Khairul Amri, who was on board Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370, Kosmo! reported.

Selamat Omar, 68, who lives in Felda Bukit Mendi said the disappearance of the flight is still an unforgettable event even though eight years have passed.

“I will never forget the day when I received the call from MAS and I rushed to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

“I am still holding on to the hope that we will find him because as Muslims, we must be buried and my son does not have a tombstone, so all we can do is continue to pray,” he said.

His son, an engineer, was among the 238 crew and passengers on board MH370 which took off from KLIA on March 8 to Beijing, China.

On plans for a renewed search effort using the latest technology, Selamat said his family members do not want to give up hope but neither do they want to pin their hopes up, as previous search efforts had failed to detect the whereabouts of the plane.

       > A man who was allegedly suffering from hallucinations was arrested by police on Monday in Sungai Petani, Kedah, for targeting cars with a slingshot at the Amanjaya traffic light, Berita Harian reported.

The incident, which went viral on social media, led to the arrest of the 46-year-old man at a house in Sungai Lalang near Bedong at 11pm.

Kuala Muda district police chief Asst Comm Adzli Abu Shah said the arrest was made following a report by a motorist who had recorded the incident and uploaded it on Facebook to caution people in the area.

“Based on our initial investigation, the suspect admitted to using the slingshot, which we later confiscated along with some small stones in a container found on his bike,” he said, adding that the suspect tested positive for drugs and had two prior convictions.
