A pedestrian was fatally injured in the District on Thursday night in a hit-and-run incident, D.C. police said. They said two cars were involved and both left the scene.
The pedestrian was crossing New Jersey Avenue NW at New York Avenue from east to west in a crosswalk at about 8:20 p.m., police said.

First one northbound car struck the pedestrian, then a second, according to the police. Both drivers left the scene before they could be identified, police said.
The pedestrian died at a hospital, according to the police.
The victim’s name was withheld until relatives could be notified, police said.
