PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and South Korea will work on increasing flights between the two countries, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister also said the two countries would, coincidentally, both be reopening borders on April 1 without mandatory quarantine for travellers.
"Only a pre-departure RT-PCR test and an RTK-Ag test on arrival will be required," he said after receiving a courtesy call from the South Korean delegation at the 24th Latin American Civil Aviation Commission XXIV (LACAC) Ordinary Assembly in Uruguay.
The South Korean delegation included its Ambassador Sangdo Kim and officials from its Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry.
The MCA president said that like Malaysia, South Korea was at the LACAC to lobby support from its 22 members for re-election under Part III during the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) general assembly for the 2022-2025 term.
"We have pledged mutual support towards that goal," Dr Wee said in a Facebook post Thursday (March 24).
He also said they had agreed that the ICAO and World Health Organisation should develop standardised common health protocols to support the reopening of borders among member states.
