SIBU: Parents have been urged to get their children vaccinated so they can continue physical schooling and have face-to-face interaction with others the same age.
Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah also urged parents not to wait any longer.
“We have a very high percentage of children who have received their vaccination but there are parents who are adopting a wait-and-see attitude,” she said when visiting the vaccination centre at Agape Centre on Saturday (April 16).
She added that all children, including those with special needs, should be vaccinated so they can continue with physical schooling.
Face-to-face education, Fatimah said, was important as children benefit from physical interaction with their peers.
“They (parents) know that with vaccination, their children will be protected and if they are infected, symptoms will be mild,” she said.
At present, a total of 286,000 children from this age group in the state have received their first dose and 46,000 their second dose.
In Sibu, she said the vaccination rate for these children was 88.3%.
