PONTIAN: A building at Jalan Benut, Kampung Parit Hassan near here was destroyed in a fire on Monday (May 30).

       Pontian Fire and Rescue station chief Azhar Abd Jalil said the station received an emergency call at noon.

       He said 14 firefighters from Pontian and Rengit Fire and Rescue stations were deployed to the scene assisted by the Benut Volunteer Firefighting Team.

       "Two Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles and a fire engine were used in the operations," Azhar said in a statement.

       He said the fire damaged about 60% of the 40ft by 80ft double-storey building.

       Azhar said the cause and the losses suffered are still under investigation.

       The fire was put off at 1.50pm.
