JERUSALEM, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Health Ministry on Tuesday reported the country's third case of monkeypox.

       The case is a 34-year-old man who recently returned from abroad and arrived at the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv with symptoms of the viral disease, the ministry said.

       He was later confirmed after a sample was tested at the Israel Institute for Biological Research, it added.

       Israel's first monkeypox case was diagnosed on May 21, and the second on May 28.

       The ministry said it would continue to follow global information about the virus and is in touch with health authorities worldwide.

       Monkeypox is common in wild animals like rodents and primates, and can also infect humans.

       Symptoms of the disease include skin rashes, fever, headache, muscle ache, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion. The rash eventually forms a scab, which later falls off, indicating that the person is no longer infectious.
