KOTA KINABALU: An allocation of RM1.3mil has been approved by the Federal Government to fix the landslip area at KM2.1 near Sandakan city centre, says Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
The Deputy Chief Minister and state Works Minister said repair works near the SM Sung Hiew clock tower roundabout will start next month.
Recently, a section of the road collapsed due to bad weather.
“This needs to be fixed soon as it is one of the main roads leading to the city centre, besides being near a school, which raises safety issues,” he said after inspecting several damaged roads, bridges and lamp poles in Sandakan on Tuesday.
On another landslip that occurred near Taman Vun Wu, he said the district engineer has been directed to submit a proposal on the estimated cost for repairs.
“It is the same for the collapsed bridge (Jambatan 10) at Kampung Sim-Sim. I have asked the Sandakan Municipal Council to study and provide an estimate to build a new bridge.
“Once we have the proposals, we can seek allocations from the federal or state government,” he added.
On complaints of faulty lamp posts in several areas around the city, Bung Moktar urged the state Local Government and Housing Ministry and local council to submit a proposal to replace them.
“Maybe it is a good idea to change existing ones with LED or solar powered lighting as these are more sustainable and durable,” he said.
