Mother of three in Melaka gets 24 years in jail for CBT

       MELAKA: A former finance executive, who is also the mother of three children, was sentenced to 24 years in jail by two separate Sessions Courts here after the accused admitted to six counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT).

       Tan Siau Ling, 43, pleaded guilty to the offences before Sessions Court Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail and Judge Darmafikri Abu Adam during separate proceedings on Tuesday (Jan 2).

       Based on the statement of facts, Tan as the account executive at the material time had committed CBT by transferring her company's money from a bank to her personal bank account and the account of her ex-husband involving an amount totalling RM680,108.13.

       The offence was committed at Hap Yeng Seng Sdn Bhd, Jalan PM 5, Plaza Mahkota Melaka in Melaka Tengah district between May 24 to Oct 23, 2019.

       All the charges against Tan were framed under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which provides for between one and 14 years in jail, along with caning and a fine upon conviction.

       Prosecutions at the two proceedings were carried out by Deputy Public Prosecutors Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim and Rashidah Baharom, respectively.

       Tan was represented by counsel Nur Atifah Kamal Effendi.

       Both courts sentenced Tan to four years jail for each of the offences and ordered the sentence to run concurrently from the date of her arrest on June 20, 2023.
