KOTA KINABALU - An elephant calf was reunited with its mother after falling into a ravine at an estate in Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia.
According to Sabah Wildlife Department director Roland Nuin, the calf was reunited with its mother shortly after it was rescued.
The calf was separated from its herd as it was raining heavily. It was rescued by a few estate workers and wildlife rangers.
In a series of videos posted on TikTok in early October, the elephant calf was seen being assisted by men to climb back out of the ravine. The calf was observed flapping its ears while being supported out of the ravine.
The calf looked frightened at first in the videos, which have since gone viral, as it was seen trying to charge at the estate workers.
“After it calmed down, the rangers steered the calf from the area and led it to a forest area where a female elephant was spotted earlier by another group.
“When the calf saw the female elephant, it cautiously approached while the female went closer for a sniff.

“After confirming that the calf belonged to her, the female elephant then took it with her and the calf happily left with it into the jungle,” he said when contacted.
“No one was injured and both the elephants returned to the forest safely,” he added. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
