       KARACHI: The Sindh government has formally adopted a new grading system for matriculation and intermediate exams.

       Developed by the Inter-Board Coordination Committee (IBCC), the new grading structure awards grades-based on scores, with categories ranging from ‘Exceptional’ for scores of 95 per cent and above to ‘Unsatisfactory’ for scores of 40pc or below.

       The policy, set to take effect in 2025, eliminates the traditional first, second and third positions, shifting the focus on a more nuanced assessment of student capabilities.

       The grading scale is as follows:

       95pc and above: A++ (Exceptional); 90-94pc: A+ (Outstanding); 85-89pct: A (Excellent); 80-84pc: B++ (Very Good); 75-79pc: B+ (Good); 70-74pc: B (Fairly Good); 60-69pc: C (Above Average); 50-59pc: D (Average); 40-49pc: E (Below Average); and below 40pc: U (Unsatisfactory).

       According to a notification from the Universities and Boards Department, “this system aims to offer a more detailed evaluation of student performance.”

       Along with Sindh, the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), have also notified the implementation of the grading scheme from the new annual year of 2025.
