The social care sector will protest in Westminster on February 25 (Image: Andy Commins / Daily Mirror)
Social care providers do not want to take to the streets for a day of action. They want to be looking after people at home or in care settings.
But, pushed into a corner, they feel they have no option and so, on February 25, representatives will gather in Westminster to seek action from the Government.

I have never known the like of it before but it is driven by a very real fear of where the care of our oldest and most vulnerable is heading.
Three decades of under-finding and neglect, of broken promises and of waiting for reform that has never come.
We have 2million people who cannot get the care they need and 131,000 vacancies in the sector. Coming up are Rachel Reeves' increases in Employer’s National Insurance Contributions and rises in the National Living Wage, expected to make a bad situation even worse.

If the Government is not willing to listen and either make the sector exempt from the ENIC increase or put in more funding to help us cope, further action may have to follow.
That could include a withdrawal of services, which nobody wants to see but which might be the next stage if change doesn’t happen. After all, we’ve been politely asking for reform for 30 years or more.
Care providers want to meet and work with the Government to find solutions and a way to ensure we can continue to deliver care to those who need it now and in the future.

This is not about the care providers who will travel to London. This is about the way, as a society, we care for each other – our husbands and wives, our mothers and fathers, our brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles and friends.
On February 25, under the banner of Providers Unite, we will be making a plea to the Government on behalf of the public who want a proper, fit for purpose social care system.
We hope the Government will listen. I urge all those in social care to support this day of action.
