ISKANDAR PUTERI: A teenage motorcyclist died on the spot after he was knocked down by a car driven by a man believed to be under the influence of alcohol at Jalan Sutera Danga here.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 19-year-old victim, a local, was riding a motorcycle from Persiaran Utama Tan Sri Yaakob and making a turn at the traffic light intersection at Jalan Sutera Danga when the accident occurred.
“A car coming from Taman Sutera towards Perling allegedly beat a red light before suddenly crashing into the victim," ACP Dzulkhairi said in a statement.
He said the impact caused the victim to be thrown into the middle of the road, adding that the victim suffered injuries to his head, body and right leg during the incident that took place at 12.53am on Wednesday (Jan 19).
ACP Dzulkhairi said the car driver, aged 20, was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, adding that the man had been remanded to assist in investigation.
"The driver escaped unhurt while two of the car passengers were injured and admitted to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru for treatment," he said.
The body of the deceased was sent to Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital in Kulai for a post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
