MELAKA: Two pythons that had been preying on livestock at Kampungku Sayang in Bukit Katil here have been finally caught, much to the relief of villagers.
Bukit Katil Fire and Rescue Department chief Abdillah Hamid said eight firemen rushed to the village at about 12.50pm yesterday.
He said they caught a female python, which they estimate is about 4.5m long and weighing between 140kg and150kg, along with male about 2.7m long and weighing about 7kg.
The snakes had been eating livestock from the village since last year and Abdillah said firemen took 15 minutes to catch the pythons, which were sheltering in a bush.
He added that the department had been getting frequent calls on snake sightings at the village.
He said the pythons will later be handed over to the Melaka Zoo.
