JOHOR BARU: Voters have been advised to cast their ballots according to the Election Commission’s (EC) proposed time slot instead of waiting until the last minute to do so.

EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said the suggested time slots can be found at https://mysprsemak.spr.gov.my/.

It can also be viewed on the MySPR Semak app.

“If the voter isn’t able to vote during the proposed time slot, they can still cast the ballot any time from 8am until 6pm.

“However, voters are advised against heading to polling centres at the last minute,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ikmalrudin said all voters must wear face masks and observe physical distancing at the polling centres.

“Voters should sanitise their hands frequently at the four designated stations set up at polling centres – at the entrance, before entering the polling channel, after voting and having their finger dipped in indelible ink, and before exiting the polling centre,” he added.

According to Ikmalrudin, voters who are categorised as Patient Under Investigation or Person Under Surveillance would have to seek permission from the district health officer to go out to vote.

He also urged employers to allow their staff, who are registered voters, to vote as stated under Section 25(1) of the Election Offences Act.

Ikmalrudin said that 49,290 staff from the EC are on duty to ensure a smooth election process at the 1,021 polling centres.

       There are 2,539,606 registered voters.

“All individuals, especially voters, candidates and those on duty who wish to enter polling centres are advised not to wear any attire, face masks or items bearing the symbols, photographs or taglines of the contesting parties,” he added.
