PUTRAJAYA: Batik Air will begin its Kuala Lumpur-Sibu flights two days earlier than planned – at RM399 one-way – to cater to those going back for Chinese New Year.

       The tickets started selling yesterday.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the ministry had asked Batik Air to offer flights to Sibu on Feb 6 and Feb 7.

Prior to this, Batik Air had announced that it would begin regular flights to Sibu, Tawau and Kota Baru from Feb 8.

However, Loke said that cooperation had been sought from Batik Air to offer flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sibu on Feb 6 and Feb 7 as there was demand for the route.

He pointed out that flights to Sabah and Sarawak had fares capped at RM599 during the festive period.

As for train rides during the period, Loke said that KTM Bhd would be offering additional trips to Ipoh and Padang Besar from Kuala Lumpur.

On Feb 7 and Feb 13, he said there would be four extra train services for the KL Sentral-Ipoh-KL Sentral route on each of those days.

As for the KL Sentral-Padang Besar-KL Sentral journey, he said there would be two additional trips each on Feb 7 as well as on Feb 10.

“Tickets for these will be on sale from Jan 15 onwards,” said Loke.
