KOTA KINABALU: A new Jesselton Quay Central project is set to change the city landscape with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor launching it on Wednesday (Jan 20).

       Hajiji said that the mixed development project along the city's waterfront is expected to give a new look to the city while capitalising on the sea view and sunsets.

       "The Jesselton Waterfront City Masterplan, of which the Jesselton Quay Central and the Sabah International Convention Centre are key parts and the ongoing and new developments in this location augur well for quality property development," he said

       “When fully completed, we can proudly say that the infrastructure development here and the revival of the city’s old side, has paid off,” added Hajiji.

       The Chief Minister said the Jesselton Quay and One Jesselton Waterfront, and the complementary developments within the vicinity will transform this waterfront area into a new-look city destination.

       “The proposed plan to develop an international cruise terminal as part of the long-term plan to position Kota Kinabalu as a regional and international water terminal port is now put into place,” he said.

       The joint-venture project is between government-linked Suria Capital Holdings Berhad and SBC Corporation Berhad.

       Hajiji said that the state was committed to making Sabah a commercially viable choice for property investment and an attractive destination for tourism.

       “The property market driven by private initiatives will further push the economic momentum in the property industry and increase the flow of investments; enhance overall economic diversification that will create wider economic opportunities.

       "It will also create other economic spillovers,” he said during the Jesselton Quay Central (JQC) Light-Up ceremony here.

       He said as outlined in the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya development agenda, Sabah’s economic strategy is to strengthen key economic clusters.

       “The property sector is a key component in this economic transformation agenda, in part, because of its proven track record in developing human resources networks and in spinning supply chains,” he added.
