KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has its first woman OCPD with the appointment of Deputy Supt Nor Rafidah Kasim to replace DSP Shahrudin Mat Husain in Keningau.
The former staff officer at the Sabah Police Headquarters will take over the post with immediate effect.
The handing-over-of-duties ceremony was held at the Keningau district police headquarters on Friday (Dec 17), witnessed by Deputy Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, as well as other senior police officers.
Jauteh said the appointment shows that women too can lead an enforcement team, and that the police force does not practise gender bias.
“As long as the person is capable, we will consider and give chances to them to lead a team, regardless of whether they are men or women,” he said.
He said there were also other women police officers that were leading smaller units and teams within the force in Sabah.
DSP Shahrudin will move on to become the Kota Belud OCPD.
