KOTA KINABALU: A drunk man who brandished a machete has been arrested after threatening to kill policemen at the Kuala Penyu station in the state's interior.
The 48-year-old local man entered the police station at around midnight Wednesday (March 16), reportedly reeking of alcohol and barely able to stand.
A policeman on duty asked what he wanted and the suspect allegedly responded, "To kill you."
Beaufort OCPD Deputy Supt Yusoff Zaki Mat Yaacob said the suspect was believed to have held up the machete after uttering those words.
He said the policeman then went inside the complaints section counter and locked the door.
“The suspect continued shouting ‘I came to the station to kill the cops’ and did not leave,” he added.
DSP Yusoff Zaki said the officer on duty called for backup and a team arrived to arrest the suspect.
No one was injured in the incident, he added.
He said initial investigations found that the suspect had acted under the influence of alcohol.
Further tests would be conducted in the course of the investigation, he said.
This case was being investigated as criminal intimidation, he added.
