Covid-19 Watch: 1,809 new infections detected, active cases now at 23,048

       PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,809 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (June 1), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,508,319 since the pandemic began.

       The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 1,804 of the new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while there were five imported infections.

       The portal also said there were 1,911 recoveries on Wednesday, bringing the total number of those who have recovered from Covid-19 infections in the country to 4,449,593.

       There are currently 23,048 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, with 95.7%, or 22,052 individuals, observing home quarantine.

       The portal also reported that there are 26 Covid-19 patients seeking treatment at intensive care units (ICUs) nationwide, with 16 requiring ventilator support.

       The ICU utilisation rate in Malaysia is now at 60% but only 5.6% is being used for Covid-19 patients.

       Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were two deaths due to Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in Malaysia to 35,678 since the pandemic began.
