PETALING JAYA: Police have obtained a four-day remand order for an insurance agent, who was filmed insulting policemen who had issuing him a compound for not wearing a face mask at a petrol station.

The man also allegedly insulted the police with foul language via a Facebook Live video that has since gone viral.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said the 29-year-old suspect would be remanded until Saturday while police conducted further investigations.

In the video, the man says he did not want to wear a face mask because he believed double masking could lead to bacterial pneumonia.

He also told police that he refused to be vaccinated against Covid-19 because he had purportedly read that other countries were declining vaccines.

He went on to tell the police that he made an honest living and had a degree in economics.

Towards the end of the clip, he claimed that he would take the police to court.

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said a video of the incident was brought to the police’s attention at 1.50pm on Tuesday.

“The video lasting 15 minutes and 42 seconds was shared on the Facebook page Info Jenayah Terkini by a user named Alyf Malik.

“Our investigations showed that the man was issued a RM1,500 compound for not wearing a face mask at a petrol station here,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that the suspect also provoked and disputed the police officers’ action while also posting a live video of the incident on social media.

“After being issued the compound, the suspect continued the live video from inside his vehicle and insulted the policemen using harsh language,” he said, adding that police also received a report over the video.

“At around 10pm that same night, we arrested the suspect at an apartment in Bandar Sri Damansara.

“During the process of arrest, the suspect once again recorded a video and posted it on social media,” he said.

The case is being investigated for obstructing a civil servant from dispensing duties, insulting a person with intent to break the public peace, making remarks with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, insulting or cursing someone, and misuse of networking facilities.

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin urged the public to cooperate with the police in dispensing their duties and to comply with the standard operating procedure under the National Recovery Plan.
