The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is being held in Glasgow, Scotland, between 31 October and 12 November 2021. But, the anchor of CNN's Situation Room Wolf Blitzer tweeted: "I’m now reporting from Edinburgh in Scotland where 20,000 world leaders and delegates have gathered for the COP26 Climate Summit. COP, by the way, stands for 'Conference of the Parties'.

"It’s the 26th time they have gathered to discuss and take action on this critical issue."

The tweet from Mr Blitzer was accompanied by the news anchor sitting behind a backdrop picture of Edinburgh castle.

The tweet caused a mass Twitter reaction, with many bemused responses pointing out that the news organisation was in the wrong city.

Comedian James Felton responded to the tweet by stating: "Forgive me if I get my information from a news organization that managed to go to the right city."

While George Galloway tweeted a reply that read: "Er, it's in Glasgow."

Approximately ten thousand people liked a reply from Specsavers that said: "Should've gone to Glasgow."

One Twitter follower called "Schadenfreude forever" attempted to explain how the mistaken tweet may have arisen.

The Twitter follower stated: "Apparently many of them are staying in Edinburgh and then travelling to Glasgow.

       "But he should be clearer."

While another Twitter follower reminded the news anchor of the carbon emissions from global air travel.

The Twitter user called "Little Red" said: "With respect, if you aren't in Glasgow where the COP26 is actually taking place, you really could have reported from home and avoided the air travel and extra pollution."

Speaking at the global climate change summit US president Joe Biden announced that, "this is the challenge of our lifetimes".

President Biden’s speech was short on details but he outlined the US long-term climate strategy.

This would be a vision of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

He also announced the first-ever US contribution to the Adaptation Fund, designed to help developing countries cope with the impacts of climate change.

Controversy has followed Xi Jinping of China's decision to not attend the summit.

China is the world's largest producer of carbon emissions.

It was thought that the Chinese leader would address the summit via video link, but Beijing has stated that he will instead send a written statement.
