Covid-19 Watch: 1,877 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 60.7pc

       PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,877 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (June 2), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,510,196 infections since the pandemic began.

       The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 1,871 of Thursday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while six imported infections were logged.

       There were 1,715 recoveries on Thursday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,451,308 since the pandemic began.

       The portal also reported that there were 23,208 active cases currently in the country, with 22,204, or 95.7%, observing home quarantine and 30 individuals, or 0.1%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

       The CovidNow portal reported that 974 patients, or 4.19% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 29, with 17 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

       The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 60.7%, with seven states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

       Selangor had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 80.5%, followed by Kedah (78.1%), Kelantan (69.6%), Johor (67.9%), Kuala Lumpur (65.6%), Negri Sembilan (65.3%) and Melaka (63%).

       Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that two Covid-19 deaths were reported on Thursday.

       This brings the death toll to 35,680.
