JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) has detained a manager of a company for alleged graft.

The suspect was detained for allegedly bribing a local council enforcement officer RM1,500 as an inducement to allow the company to continue its operations.

The 39-year-old suspect was arrested at the MACC office here on Tuesday (April 12) at 4.30pm while giving his statement.

The suspect had offered the money to the enforcement officer as an inducement not to take action against his family business, which had received a notice to stop operations.

The suspect on Monday (April 11) went to the local council office at around 2.20pm to make an appeal as the business did not possess a valid licence under Section 109 of the Local Government Act 1976.

Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest, adding the case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.

The suspect has been released on MACC bail.
