MELAKA: DAP has revoked the membership of Datuk Ng Choon Koon for running as an independent candidate for the Bemban state seat.
DAP national organising committee secretary Anthony Loke said Ng's membership was automatically voided.
Also contesting for the Bemban seat is Melaka DAP chief Datuk Tey Kok Kiew.
"It's Ng's right to stand as an independent but DAP's stance is we will disqualify him,'' said Loke, adding that his membership was only approved in July.
Ng, a Melaka executive councillor from 2013 to 2018, said he would go ahead with his campaign as an independent regardless of DAP's views on the matter.
The Bemban seat will see a five-cornered fight with Ng facing off against Barisan Nasional's Koh Chin Han, Perikatan Nasional's Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub, Pakatan Harapan's Tey as well as independent Azmi Kamis.
Meanwhile, Loke said political gatherings were crucial for DAP as it could be used as a platform to collect funds for the party.
However, he said DAP would now use digital platforms to conduct ceramah and collect funds.
