JOHOR BARU: Another candidate for the Johor polls has tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of positive cases among candidates to five since nomination day.
DAP candidate for the Jementah seat, Ng Kor Sim said that she found out she was positive after taking an RTK test on Friday (March 4).
"Yesterday (March 4), I found out that I am a close contact of a Covid-19 patient. As a precaution, I decided to cancel all of my events and quarantine myself at home.
"I took an RTK in the afternoon on Friday (March 4) where the result came out negative. In the evening, I took another test and unfortunately, it showed that I am Covid-19 positive," she said in a Facebook post on Saturday (March 5).
She added that she then took a third RTK test on Saturday (March 5) where she tested positive again.
"I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused. I would also like to thank those who have showed concern.
"I am doing well and will continue communicating online," she said.
Aside from Ng, the candidates who have tested positive included DAP's Pekan Nanas candidate Yeo Tung Siong, MCA's candidate for Penggaram Ter Hwa Kwong, PKR candidates Arthur Chiong Sern Sen (Bukit Batu) and Naim Jusri (Gambir).
Early voting for the Johor state election falls on March 8 while polling day is on March 12.
