KUCHING: Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Willie Mongin (pic) has pledged full support to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates in Serembu, Mambong and Tarat, which make up the Puncak Borneo parliamentary seat in the coming state polls.
The Puncak Borneo MP, who is in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, said he would also assist in campaigning during the 12th Sarawak election if requested by GPS.
“I have asked my supporters to back GPS candidates in Serembu, Mambong and Tarat,” he told reporters when met at an event here yesterday.
Bernama quoted the deputy minister as saying that he would support GPS because he wants political stability in Sarawak.
“We have witnessed political instability at the federal level that has caused the government and the prime minister to change several times. I believe when we have a stable government and a stable political situation, more development can be carried out for the people,” he said.
Willie also hoped that GPS would extend its assistance to him when he defends his seat in the next general election.
In Miri, the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) said that the party has identified the candidates to contest the upcoming state election.
Its secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting said several discussions have been held by SUPP to nominate candidates to contest in the upcoming state polls.
“We have already shortlisted the candidates. But let the party president (Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian) make the announcement,” he said.
On Oct 24, GPS secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the coalition would contest all 82 state constituencies in the polls.
In the last election, SUPP contested 13 seats and won seven – Senadin, Batu Kawa, Batu Kitang, Simanggang, Repok, Meradong and Piasau.
