PETALING JAYA: Touch ‘n Go has urged customers to purchase the newly-released enhanced TNG card from its official channel.

This comes after reports of scalpers offering the cards for up to RM90 on an ecommerce site.

“We advise customers to purchase the cards from our formal network, which is essentially the Touch ‘n Go eWallet, and selected retail locations nationwide. A full list is available on our website,” the company said in a statement to LifestyleTech.

The card, which was released last week, has been listed as unavailable on the ewallet. Customers have also claimed that the cards are sold out at physical retail outlets.

The company said demand has exceeded supply and it anticipated the issue due to the global chip shortage.

“Stocks are being replenished periodically as we try to get the cards to our users. Also, users are advised to register their interest on the Touch ‘n Go eWallet application if they are unable to purchase the cards,” it explained.

The company added that it works with many local and international partners to manufacture the cards.

On April 25, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that there will be toll-free travel and discounts between 30% to 50% on local highways from April 30 to May 1, and May 7 to 8, in conjunction with Hari Raya celebrations.

Plus Malaysia managing director Azman Ismail said in a statement that users still need to tap their TNG cards on the toll lane reader during the toll-free and discounted period to enable the company to collect traffic data. The same applies for those using RFID and SmartTag.

“Meanwhile, consumers who choose to use RFID need to ensure they enter and exit the expressway by only using the RFID lane, and like the Touch ‘n Go card and SmartTag, no toll payment will be imposed or deducted from their ewallet,” he said.

Customers are also advised to log on to the Touch ‘n Go portal to check the status of their TNG card to avoid congestion at the toll lane due to inactive cards.
