Covid-19: Number of cases spike in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah spiked on Tuesday (Oct 19) with 695 infections, an increase of 198 from the day before.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said while a "yo-yo effect" in the number of cases was anticipated, this was a considerably high increase in cases.

"Kota Belud contributed the most of all districts with 123 cases, but we should also note that 91 cases from the district's total figure were registered late," said Masidi.

As the state transitioned to Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan on Monday (Oct 18), he reminded that the changes in daily figures depended on the adherence towards standard operating procedures (SOP).

On Monday, Sabah announced further relaxation of restrictions under the third phase, which include theme parks, family karaoke centres, indoor playgrounds and video arcades reopening, for fully vaccinated operators and visitors.

"However, night club and pub activities are still not permitted," Masidi said.

Other relaxations include allowing the use of sauna and jacuzzis at accommodation facilities, limited at 50% capacity while cinemas are allowed to operate at 70% capacity.
