KUALA TERENGGANU (Bernama): A labourer pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court here on Thursday (July 22) to three counts of disorderly conduct and endangering the public at a roadblock in Kuala Nerus here last Thursday (July 15).
Chew Chong Teck, 45, entered the plea after the charges were read out to him before Magistrate Noor Mazrinie Mahmood.
On the first and second counts, the accused was alleged to have disobeyed police orders to stop at a roadblock and refrain from entering a lane which was clearly written "for frontliners only" while on the third count he was charged with reckless driving.
The offences were committed at Bukit Jong roadblock at Batu Rakit, Kuala Nerus, at 11.30am.
Chong Teck was charged under Section 26 (2) of the Police Act 1967, Sections 279 and 427 of the Penal Code.
The court, however, withheld his guilty plea pending a psychiatric evaluation at Permai Hospital in Tampoi, Johor and set Aug 30 for re-mention.
It was previously reported that a man, believed to be mentally unsound, had caused a commotion when he accelerated and went against nine traffic lights and three roadblocks from Bukit Jong to KM 30, Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Bukit Besi in Bukit Perah, Ajil in Hulu Terengganu. - Bernama
