SIXTY terrified kids screamed for help after their packed school bus overturned and trapped them onboard this morning.

Quick-thinking drivers were seen pulling the youngsters out of the crashed double-decker after it careened "into a ditch" in North Hykeham, Lincolnshire, shortly before 9am.

A 12-year-old boy was rushed to hospital with a broken arm and a 14-year-old girl was taken to hospital as a precaution following the crash.

The Stagecoach bus - which was taking dozens of pupils to Sir Robert Pattinson Academy and North Kesteven School - is pictured tilting at an almost 45 degree angle after it came off the road.

Witnesses heard kids "screaming" in terror during the crash as brave onlookers rushed in to help.

A motorist - who asked not to be named - said: "I was about five cars back and I knew something was wrong because I could see the top of the bus weaving all over the place.

"It must have skidded on something, maybe some oil or he was trying to avoid another car, because the driver was really struggling to keep it on the road.

"The bus almost collided into another car but the driver managed to steer it into the ditch. I thought it was going to topple over.

"All the cars stopped and I got out, it was pretty scary because all you could hear were the kids screaming for help.

"Thankfully all of them were dragged out with just a few bruises."

Adam Marsden, 30, said he was travelling behind the bus shortly before it crashed.

He said: "I was travelling through the area at around half eight this morning.

"It looked like the bus just veered off the road - I took the photo at 8.33am.

"Emergency services were really quick and passersby were helping to extract the kids.

"I don't know how many were on the bus, but it was pretty full, though - kids on upstairs too."

Terrified parents have been urged not to go to the crash site, and to instead travel to nearby St Christopher's School.

       SCHOOL RUN HORROR

There, frantic staff were this morning "setting up" for an influx of terrified parents - as the road was closed off to traffic.

An insider at the school - which caters to kids with severe learning difficulties - told the Sun: "Everybody is dealing with it at the moment.

"We are currently setting up, putting chairs out."

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: "Meadow Lane and Brant Road was closed at 8:43am to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

"There are no serious injuries reported. Parents are advised against travelling to the scene and instead to travel to St Christopher's School."

Meanwhile, a Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue were called at 8.32 this morning to an overturned bus on Meadow Lane.

"We had one crew from Lincoln South Fire Station who attended to assist police on scene safety."

An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 8.28am on 11 November to Meadow Lane in North Hykeham.

"The caller reported that there had been a road traffic collision. We sent two paramedics in fast response cars, three LIVES community first responders and three double-crewed ambulances.

"The police were also on scene. Currently two patients have been taken to Lincoln County Hospital via double-crewed ambulances and we are currently still on scene."

       Meadow Lane has since reopened.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Midlands said: "Our immediate thoughts are with the children involved and their families.

"We are giving the police our full support in helping to investigate and establish the circumstances of the incident."
