PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s Covid-19 daily cases remained above the 20,000 mark, as the country reports 22,642 new coronavirus infections.
In his daily Covid-19 statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country’s cumulative total of cases was now 1,616,244.
He said 97.9% of the cases were either mild or asymptomatic infections.
The other 2.1% cases were those in Category 3, 4 and 5, he added.
Overall, 80.1% of yesterday’s cases involved those who either had not completed their vaccination dosage or were unvaccinated.
The ministry also reported 265 more Covid-19 deaths, with 105 of the fatalities occurring in Selangor alone.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country’s death toll had now reached 14,818. Of the 265 fatalities, 219 were Malaysians while 46 were foreign nationals. The fatalities also include 69 cases classified as “brought-in-dead”.
The ministry has also identified 42 new clusters nationwide. This takes the number of active ones to 1,458. Of the 42 new clusters, 23 are workplace-related outbreaks – with 878 confirmed cases.
There are also 13 community clusters involving at least 325 positive cases.
