PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia's Covid-19 death toll has now reached 27,921 after the country reported another 63 deaths from the virus on Monday (Oct 18).

       Of the reported deaths, 11 were classified as "brought-in-dead" (BID) cases.

       This brings the total of BID cases in the country to 5,646.

       Out of the 63 reported deaths, nine were from the Klang Valley.

       Other deaths occurred in Sarawak (13), Johor (nine), Sabah (seven), Perak (five), Kedah (four), Penang (four), Melaka (four), Kelantan (two), Perlis (two), Pahang (two), Negri Sembilan (one) and Terengganu (one).

       Labuan and Putrajaya did not report any deaths.

       On Sunday (Oct 17), Malaysia reported 6,133 new Covid-19 cases and 9,231 recoveries.

       Active Covid-19 cases went down to 92,246 – a reduction of about 3,000 cases from the previous day.

       The country reached a peak of 260,000 active cases at the end of August, which has steadily declined to the current figure.

       Of the total active cases currently, 70,849 or 76.8% are patients with mild infection and are undergoing home quarantine.

       Another 13,799 (15%) are those under isolation at low-risk quarantine centres (PKRC), while 6,910 (7.5%) are hospitalised.

       The number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) is now 688 (0.8%), with 348 (0.3%) on ventilator support.

       The national ICU utilisation rate is currently at 61.2%.
