NEW YORK, April 14 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar appreciated in late trading on Thursday amid weakness in the euro.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, increased 0.45 percent at 100.3200.

The euro, the largest component of the index, declined, after the European Central Bank left interest rates unchanged on Thursday and said that it would stick to its plan to wind down stimulus policies.

In late New York trading, the euro decreased to 1.0837 U.S. dollars from 1.0889 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.3073 dollars from 1.3110 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar fell to 0.7417 U.S. dollar from 0.7447 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 125.97 Japanese yen, higher than 125.60 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.9425 Swiss franc from 0.9341 Swiss franc, and it was up to 1.2606 Canadian dollars from 1.2568 Canadian dollars.
