KOTA KINABALU: Reeling from the heartbreak of losing his girlfriend to another man, a labourer attacked and seriously injured his former flame's husband-to-be in Putatan near here.
The 20-year-old suspect managed to confront the man, who recently got engaged with his ex-girlfriend, at an overhead bridge and slashed him with a machete.
The 24-year-old victim suffered serious injuries to his face and body following the incident at 6.30pm on May 18. He is still being treated at the district hospital.
Penampang OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the victim's 20-year-old fiancée lodged a report at 11.28pm the same day.
He said police managed to locate and detain the suspect on May 20.
"The suspect was found with the weapon strapped to his hip, which we believe was used in the attack," he said on Thursday (May 26).
DSP Mohd Haris said the suspect also tested positive for drugs.
"We are investigating the case under Section 326 of the Penal Code (for causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means)," he said.
