LABUAN: A total of 66,448 or 97% of the adult population here has completed the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccination initiative as of Tuesday, keeping it on track to achieve 100% herd immunity on National Day.
Labuan Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) chairman Rithuan Ismail said at least another 2,052 people needed to be vaccinated to achieve 100% immunity by Aug 31.
“Looking at the daily turnout of over 200 to 300 people for the second dose at our vaccination centres (PPV), we are quite optimistic of achieving (total) herd immunity by the end of this month,” he said yesterday.
He said that due to the high percentage of vaccinated recipients, only two PPVs were left open – the Labuan Matriculation College and Komplek Darul Kifayah.
“We set a target of achieving 95% second dose vaccination by the end of August, and we are glad to have surpassed that a few days ago.”
Rithuan said a large number of people who received the first dose had yet to turn up for the second jab for various reasons, including being away from Labuan.
Labuan will move to Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan today, making it the first federal territory or state in the country to do so. — Bernama
