A dead dog wrapped in plastic was found after being left on a dog walking route in Oxfordshire.

The rottweiler was discovered at around 8.30am on Monday, September 11 on a walking track in Upper Icknield Way, Chinnor.

The dog was found with black plastic tied around his stomach which appeared to have been used to drag him.

The RSPCA has launched an appeal for information after the sad discovery was made by a member of the public.

RSPCA Inspector Prisca Giddens, who is investigating, said: "The dog has no visible injuries and didn’t appear to be neglected, nor is there any obvious cause of death - so we are keen to find out how and why this dog came to be dumped.

"The dog was microchipped but the chip had been implanted in Romania, and therefore we’re unable to access the details.

"The only distinguishing feature the dog had is a docked tail.

"Anyone who has any information about this poor dog is urged to contact us on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference 01150885."

It comes just days after a Staffordshire Bull Terrier was found dumped in a river two weeks after she had gone missing.

Saffi vanished while on a walk with her owner and their two other dogs in Footscray Meadows, Sidcup.

The river was searched by The Missing Paw Team on a daily basis but she was unable to be found.

Her owners later reported her as stolen to the police but she was later found in the river by a member of the public in the same area that had been searched.

Saffi had significant injuries including multiple bone fractures, bruising and puncture wounds. The Missing Paw Team said the injuries can "only have been inflicted by human hands".
