PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has met with three DAP lawmakers over claims that they have been offered money and other incentives in exchange for their support for the Perikatan Nasional government.
“For now, the MACC has yet to be able to identify the owners of the handphone numbers that had sent messages via WhatsApp application to the lawmakers.
“The MACC gives its assurance to continue investigating the matter,” it said in a statement on Monday (Aug 9).
The anti-graft agency said that while it views the matter seriously, the public should refrain from making any speculation on the issue and should allow the agency to investigate.
The MACC however did not name the three DAP MPs who met with its officers.
Previously, Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran had claimed that one of his officers had received “a random call followed by WhatsApp messages” from an unidentified party offering money, a ministerial position and other incentives to support the current administration.
His secretary has since lodged a report on the matter.
Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong was said to have taken to social media to share WhatsApp messages from an unknown number that pointed out there were two vacant ministerial positions.
It was also reported that Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kevin Yii shared a screenshot on Twitter after having received a similar message.
